Emese Pokol Secures 3rd Place at TDK Conference with Innovative Gesture Control Project!

June 11, 2025

We are thrilled to announce that our talented student, Emese Pokol, has achieved an outstanding 3rd place at the prestigious Scientific Students’ Associations Conference (TDK)!

Emese's award-winning project, supervised by our lab members, Donát Köller and Roland Molontay, explored the cutting-edge application of controlling a computer via hand gestures recognized by a vision transformer. This innovative work showcases the exciting potential at the intersection of human-computer interaction and advanced machine learning.

Emese embarked on her research journey remarkably early, in her first year of university studies, thanks to the EKÖP - University Research Scholarship Programme. She impressively secured this scholarship while still in high school, demonstrating her early passion and aptitude for research. A key requirement of the EKÖP scholarship is the submission of a TDK paper during the funding period.

Given that first-year students at BME typically cannot enter the autumn TDK with a brand-new research topic, Emese proactively sought an alternative venue. We are immensely grateful to the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) Faculty of Informatics for graciously accepting her submission and providing her with the platform to present her work.

The entire HSDSLab extends its warmest congratulations to Emese on this fantastic achievement. We are incredibly proud of her dedication, ingenuity, and the success she has earned!
